The Quality of Schrader TPMS Sensors

Several major car manufacturers choose to install Schrader TPMS sensors in every vehicle that rolls off the line. Why is this? What is it about Schrader TPMS sensors that can caused Schrader to rise to the top of the TPMS game? Around mid July 2012, Schrader had produced its 200 millionth TPMS sensor and plans to produce loads more for the Asian and European markets.

High quality and innovative standards have made Schrader an industry leader. Every sensor that Schrader produces is subject to rigorous testing in a wide variety of dimensional, visual, and operational conditions.

The four components of the Schrader TPMS sensor that are thoroughly tested include:

1) The sensor enclosure: holds the printed circuit board and all components within the sensor

2) The pressure transducer: measures the pressure in each tire

3) The radio frequency circuit (RF): Allows for wireless communication of tire pressure data.

4) The application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC): the brains of the unit. Turns pressure data into useful information, which can then be interpreted by the tire pressure monitoring system and then relayed to the driver.

Schrader valves are also thoroughly tested to cope with conditions that would lower the performance quality of the entire sensor unit.

Schrader valves are manufactured with a rubber compound that provides strong ozone resistance. Certain environmental conditions can lead to rubber deterioration. What resultsis surface cracks, splitting, and loss of air pressure.

Schrader also tests for adhesion in its valve stems. Poor bonding of the rubber to the brass body insert can lead to the bulging of the stem above the rim surface and loss of air pressure.

Cheap aftermarket sensors aren't so meticulously crafted, nor as they subjected to so many different trials. It's all about quality and performance. TPMS is not just some random, bogus component. It's a safety feature designed to keep you and your loved ones safe on the road.
